Insiders At AdaptHealth Sold US$51m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Jun 1 20:30

The fact that multiple AdaptHealth Corp. (NASDAQ:AHCO) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At AdaptHealth

The insider, Wayne Quasha, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$51m worth of shares at a price of US$13.98 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$9.48. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Does AdaptHealth Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that AdaptHealth insiders own 11% of the company, worth about US$134m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At AdaptHealth Tell Us?

The fact that there have been no AdaptHealth insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the AdaptHealth insiders selling.
