GMO Payment Gateway Co., Ltd. (TSE Prime Market: Securities Code 3769, President and CEO: Kazunari Aiura), which develops comprehensive payment-related services and finance-related services in the GMO Internet Group, announced on 2024/5/17 (Friday) that the greenhouse gas (hereinafter, GHG) reduction targets of the Company and its consolidated companies (hereafter, the Company) are encouraged to set climate targets based on science from the “SBT Initiative”, a global organization that encourages companies to set climate targets based on science It has been certified as being a target consistent with the “1.5℃ target.” The “SBT Initiative” is an international initiative composed of a coalition of institutional investors (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which promotes information disclosure on climate change countermeasures.
As a result, it was demonstrated that our GHG reduction target is scientifically consistent with the “1.5℃ target,” which suppresses the global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to before the industrial revolution in the Paris Agreement adopted as a new international framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions etc. from 2020 onwards.

・Scope 1 and 2: Continuously achieve virtually zero GHG emissions until the 2030/9 fiscal year
・Scope 3: GHG emissions per newly operated payment terminal by the 2030/9 fiscal year will be reduced by 55% compared to the 2021/9 fiscal year

Indirect GHG emissions of electricity, heat, etc. purchased with “Scope 2”.
Indirect GHG emissions from the “Scope 3” supply chain. Purchased products and services (category 1) and use of sold products (category 11) relating to payment terminal products that account for most of our Scope 3 are applicable.

[Background and Overview]

We are working to reduce GHG emissions and TCFD(*1)We are proceeding with information disclosure based on recommendations, and have received high praise as a best practice company in the CDP “Climate Change Report 2023.”(*2).
In the 2023/9 fiscal year, carbon neutrality was achieved by achieving actual zero in Scope 1 and 2 on a consolidated basis(*3)We are continuing to aim to achieve virtually zero continuously until the 2030/9 fiscal year. Also, in Scope 3, we have set a target value to reduce Scope 3 emissions per newly operated payment terminal by 55% compared to the 2021/9 fiscal year by the 2030/9 fiscal year, and are proceeding with efforts to achieve this.
Recently, it has been certified by the SBT Initiative as being targets based on scientific evidence to keep the global average temperature rise to “1.5 degrees Celsius” compared to before the industrial revolution.
