Zhitong Finance App News. Recently, North Mining (00433) released the “2023 Environmental, Social and Governance Report”. This is the Group's 8th ESG Report, which outlines its efforts to promote sustainable development during the 2023 fiscal year.
The main business of Northern Mining is mining business — mining, exploration and manufacture of mineral resources and sale of chemicals. By implementing proper ESG management and incorporating sustainable practices into daily operations, the Group strives to enhance sustainable performance and create long-term value in line with stakeholders' expectations. In 2023, the Group's assessment identified and included a total of 20 potentially significant topics, covering multiple aspects.
In terms of environmental protection, this year, Beifang Mining has set various environmental protection targets and is continuously reviewing and improving; it has adopted green office measures to minimize environmental impact and create a low-carbon operation; it has implemented energy saving measures to continuously improve resource utilization efficiency, and strives to implement paperless offices.
During the reporting period, the Group's activities generated 63,829 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, with an emission density of 41.6 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent/ total Group revenue of HK$1 million; automobiles and electricity required for daily operation consumed a total of 109,433 megawatt-hours, with an energy consumption intensity of 71 MW/ Group total revenue of HK$1 million; private cars used gasoline and diesel for business meetings and business trips, which emitted 0.38 kg of sulfur oxide and 98 kg of nitrogen oxide, with no respiratory suspended particulate matter.
As of December 31, 2023, Northern Mining had 653 employees in mainland China and Hong Kong, China. The Group strives to enhance employees' professional knowledge and skills, provide employees with induction training, including introduction to corporate culture and on-the-job training. It also arranges further on-the-job training, health and safety training, internal experience sharing and other activities for employees to broaden their professional horizons. In 2023, the total number of employees participating in the training was 295, the total number of training hours was 5,945 hours, and the average number of training hours was 20.15 hours. Furthermore, to encourage development, the Group conducts an annual assessment of employees at the end of each year. The Group will provide promotion and training opportunities for employees based on their performance and responsibilities.
The northern mining supply chain mainly includes petroleum resin raw material suppliers and utility suppliers. In fiscal year 2023, the majority of the Group's suppliers were in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in China.
In terms of supply chain management, the Group has transparent procurement procedures to select suitable suppliers in a fair, just and open manner. The Group considers various factors during procurement, including but not limited to product or service quality, pricing and delivery time, to reduce procurement risks and improve procurement efficiency. The Group will also monitor the environmental and social performance of suppliers to ensure that they meet standards and reduce environmental and social risks associated with procurement. Furthermore, when selecting suppliers, the company always strictly monitors the supplier's environmental, social and governance practices, giving priority to environmentally friendly products and services.
