Indonesia's antitrust agency said on Monday that it is currently investigating local subsidiaries of e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada for allegedly violating anti-competitive rules.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Indonesian antitrust agency said on Monday that it is currently investigating local subsidiaries of e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada for allegedly violating anti-competitive rules.
These two companies, PT Shopee Internasional Indonesia and PT Ecart Webportal Indonesia, oversee local operations in Shopee and Lazada respectively.
The agency did not provide details of the anti-competitive rules allegedly violated.
Shopee, a subsidiary of Southeast Asian technology company Sea (SE.US), and Lazada, the Southeast Asian e-commerce platform of Alibaba (09988), did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The agency said hearings against Shopee will begin on Tuesday, but did not disclose details of possible penalties.
According to information, the agency discovered early evidence of Lazada's violation, saying that Lazada will face the maximum fine of 50% of its net profit or 10% of sales during the suspected violation period.
“There are signs that Lazada has taken discriminatory actions that may curb competition, and there are signs that its actions have harmed consumers,” the agency said.
