The Zhitong Finance App learned that the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas handed down a ruling. The jury found that Micron Technology (MU.US) infringed the computer memory company Netlist's patent rights in high-performance computing memory module technology and required Netlist 445 million US dollars in compensation.
The case began in 2022, when Netlist accused Micron of infringing Netlist's patents relating to memory chip capacity enhancement technology held by Netlist on three of its storage production lines.
District court jurors now determined that Micron had indeed infringed on Netlist's two storage patents, requiring compensation of $425 million and $20 million, respectively.
Jurors also found that Micron committed intentional infringement, which may cause the judge to further increase the amount of compensation.
Micron said it plans to appeal the jury's ruling.
Micron said that the vast majority of damages awarded by the jury were based on Netlist's 912 patent, which was invalidated by the US Patent Trial and Appeals Board of the US Patent and Trademark Office more than a month before the trial (IPR2022-00615, document 96). The jury's ruling does not affect previous rulings on the invalidity of Netlist's patents.
