The fire at Novo Nordisk's Danish headquarters has been extinguished. This is the pharmaceutical company's second fire in less than a week.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that the fire at Novo Nordisk (NVO.US)'s Danish headquarters has been extinguished. This is the second fire that occurred in less than a week at the pharmaceutical company.
Local fire department head Rasmus Storgaard said authorities left the scene shortly after midnight and returned to the scene for final inspection on Thursday morning local time. He pointed out that the fire began on Wednesday morning at Novo Nordisk's Bagsvaerd campus and only damaged 1,800 square meters (19,000 square feet) of the building.
Novo Nordisk said on Thursday that the remaining parts of the building will be demolished and these parts are not used for production. The main headquarters building was unaffected, and there were no casualties. Police said it may take days or weeks to determine the cause, but there is no indication that this is a criminal act.
Novo Nordisk has become the highest-capitalized company in Europe with its best-selling weight loss and diabetes medications Wegovy and Ozempic, and the Danish pharmaceutical company is currently investing heavily to expand in Denmark and overseas. Prior to this week's fire, a fire also broke out on the roof of a building under construction at Novo Nord's manufacturing center in Kalundborg on May 16. The company is spending more than $8 billion to increase production at the Kalundborg manufacturing center.
