① Meta CEO Zuckerberg has founded an “AI Product Advisory Committee”; ② it is reported that the committee will be composed of four executives, but they will not be paid; ③ they will regularly provide guidance on artificial intelligence and advanced technology to the Meta management team.

Financial Services Association, May 23 (Editor: Huang Junzhi) According to reports, Meta Platform CEO Zuckerberg has set up a new artificial intelligence (AI) product advisory board. They will meet regularly with Meta management team and provide guidance on artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

According to reports, the committee will be composed of four executives: Patrick Collison, CEO and co-founder of the online payment service provider Stripe; Nat Friedman, former CEO of the online software source code hosting service platform GitHub; Tobi Lütke, CEO of the multinational e-commerce company Shopify; and Charlie Songhurst, a former Microsoft executive.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed that none of the four will be paid. Also, the Meta Advisory Group will be different from a board of directors because its members are not elected by shareholders and they have no fiduciary responsibility for the company.

“The mission of this advisory group is to provide insights and recommendations on technology advancements, innovation, and strategic growth opportunities.” The spokesperson said in a statement.

Reviving the “power of AI”

In an internal notice to employees, Zuckerberg wrote, “I have great respect for this group of people and their achievements in their respective fields, and I am grateful that they are willing to share their views with Meta at an important time when we use artificial intelligence and the virtual world to seize new opportunities.”

The team came as Meta was looking to revive its AI-focused products. These products include hardware devices such as Quest virtual reality headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, as well as software products such as Meta's artificial intelligence assistant, which the company is providing AI assistants to consumers through several of its apps.

Zuckerberg told investors during Meta's earnings call last month that the company will increase capital expenditure and step up artificial intelligence development efforts this year.

Earlier, at the end of April, he said, “We are becoming more optimistic and ambitious about artificial intelligence. We've proven that we can build leading models and become the world's leading artificial intelligence company. It gave us a lot of additional opportunities, not just the ones that were most obvious to us.”

The CEO also urged investors to be patient and noted that many of the company's AI efforts will not immediately pay off financially. In the race to develop artificial intelligence models that can support the next generation of technology products, the company faces competitors including Alphabet Inc.'s Google, Microsoft and its partner OpenAI, and startup Anthropic.

It's unclear how often the Product Advisory Group will meet, but Zuckerberg said the group will “regularly” provide advice to Meta's management team.
