Glonghui, May 22 | Amazon's cloud computing division AWS said on Wednesday that it will invest 15.7 billion euros (about 17.02 billion US dollars) to invest in data centers in the Aragon region of northeastern Spain, greatly advancing its expansion plans in Spain. The Aragonese government said in a separate statement that the investment will be completed within 10 years. The region has become Amazon's center in Spain, and the Aragonese government called the plan “the largest technology investment in Spain and southern Europe.” Amazon said in a statement that the new plan replaced the one previously announced in 2021, when the company allocated 2.5 billion euros to Spain. Amazon said the investment will support local companies to create an average of about 17,500 jobs per year by 2033. Different cloud computing providers such as AWS and Microsoft's Azure have been investing heavily in building data centers across Europe, and in the past they were all concentrated in the same region.
