GLONGHUI, May 22 | The European Organization of the Automobile Industry said on Wednesday that new car sales in the EU increased 13.7% year-on-year in April, the biggest increase since October last year, after a decline in new car registrations in March. According to the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA), growth in major markets such as Spain, Germany, France and Italy contributed to the increase in new car sales, while the early arrival of Easter added two additional sales days to the month. According to ACEA data, sales of pure electric vehicles increased 14.8% year on year in April, and sales of hybrid electric vehicles increased 33.1% year on year. All electric vehicles accounted for 47.8% of total sales of all new vehicles, up from 44.1% in the same period last year. The three major European automakers Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Renault increased their car registrations in the EU by 15.5%, 1.7%, and 11.0%, respectively, while Toyota's registrations soared by 47.3%. According to the data, the number of new car registrations in the European Union, the United Kingdom and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) increased by 12.0% in April to 1.08 million vehicles.
