On May 20, the “Home for Young Leaders in Global Development” (hereinafter referred to as “Youth Home”) launched the first “China Tour” and the inauguration ceremony of the Advisory Committee was held in Beijing on the 20th. Representatives from more than 30 countries, regional and international organizations and nearly 100 Chinese and foreign youth representatives participated in the event. Zhao Fengtao, Deputy Director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, attended and delivered a speech. Chang Qide, the coordinator of the United Nations Development System in China, spoke on behalf of the “Youth Home” Advisory Committee. Yang Guang, co-founder of Shuidi (WDH.US), spoke as a Chinese youth representative.

Zhao Fengtao, deputy director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, said that if young people around the world have ideals and responsibilities, there is hope for the noble cause of human peace and development. The National Cooperation Administration attaches great importance to international development cooperation in the field of youth, empowers young people through practical actions, and works together to build and share a “youth home” platform to promote the common development of young people around the world. We will further focus on action, gather strength, and build platforms to strengthen policy guidance, build strong intellectual support, and provide professional guidance for the development of Chinese and foreign youth, cultivate young people with an ambition for global development, stimulate youth innovation vitality, jointly address global challenges, and cultivate the strength of sustainable development for the sustainable development agenda.

Chang Kai Tak, the coordinator of the United Nations development system in China, said that active, inclusive and efficient youth participation and empowerment is one of the priorities of the United Nations. The United Nations system in China focuses on youth affairs to seek maximum welfare for young people in China and the world, especially vulnerable groups. The UN Representative Office in China will continue to strengthen cooperation with China, provide networks and expertise, and contribute to global youth issues.

At the event, Yang Guang, co-founder of Shuidi Company, and Su Yifang (Malaysia), a representative of the China Foreign Aid Training Student Home and PhD student at Peking University's South University School, spoke as Chinese and foreign youth representatives respectively. Yang Guang said that Shuidi Company attaches great importance to organizational construction and the cultivation of young talents, using the absorption and cultivation of young talents as an opportunity to cultivate “fertile ground” for talents, inject “living water” into talents, activate the “engine” of talents, continuously optimize the youth talent development ecosystem, promote cooperation and exchanges between youth groups and various industries, serve youth groups more accurately and effectively, and contribute more to the cultivation and development of young talents.

The event was hosted by the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the theme was “Empowering Youth to Create the Future Together”. According to reports, the “Home for Young Leaders in Global Development” was formally established during the first high-level meeting of the Global Shared Development Action Forum held in July 2023 to support more young people to participate in global development cooperation and add more vitality to future global development. The first “China Tour” event of the “Home for Young Leaders in Global Development” is scheduled to begin in late May. Chinese and foreign youth representatives will visit Fujian, Ningxia and other places to observe and witness the achievements of Chinese-style modern development from the perspective of young people from around the world.
