Hymson is a laser technology company that has successively developed lasers and automation equipment used in important fields such as consumer electronics, power and energy storage batteries, photovoltaic cells, and new displays and sheet metal processing. The “Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily” reporter noticed that in the context of overcapacity in the photovoltaic and lithium battery industries, Haimu is exploring new fields such as medical lasers.
Entering a new medical business
As early as 1994, the scientific community relied on large-scale free-electron laser facilities to simulate mid-infrared ultrafast lasers, which initially proved that the minimally invasive cutting effect of 6-6.4 µm mid-infrared ultrafast lasers is clearly superior to other lasers with a wavelength of 3 µm.
However, in the past 30 years, despite continuous research in this field in many countries around the world, it has always been limited by the absence of 6-9µm high-power mid-infrared femtosecond lasers and the unknown mechanism of tissue resonance ablation, so minimally invasive ablation surgery based on mid-infrared femtosecond lasers has not yet been realized. Among these, the main bottleneck is insufficient power and inability to tune.
According to Hymstar, as of the disclosure date, the company has successfully developed a long-wave infrared continuously tunable desktop femtosecond laser (LWIRFS). The laser has a tuning range of 5-11μm, maximum output power > 1W, maximum pulse energy > 2µJ, pulse width <300fs, and a repetition rate of 500kHz. The result of this research and development is a pioneering product in the world, and there are currently no standard products in the world.
According to reports, the company's major breakthroughs in mid-infrared femtosecond laser technology and key technologies in the medical application field have provided it with relevant technical support for its layout in the fields of medical lasers, healthcare, and medical beauty.
According to the Hummer plan, the company aims to complete clinical trials of related medical device products as soon as possible and obtain Class II and Class III medical licenses for related products; after obtaining Class II and Class III medical licenses, related medical device products aim to achieve industrialized layout and large-scale production in the medical-related industry within three to five years.
Notably, a relevant person from Haimxing told the “Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily” reporter that the medical business is a new business the company has entered, and a related product launch will be held in Shanghai at the end of this month. “We have been reserving medical lasers, and we will announce them as soon as development progresses. However, at present, related products are still in the clinical stage, and there are no sales or orders for the time being.” The person mentioned it.
Set up a medical technology company in Sichuan
The annual report shows that in 2023, Hymson achieved revenue of 4.805 billion yuan, an increase of 17.03% over the previous year, while net profit to mother was 322 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 15.42%, with no increase in revenue.
By the end of the first quarter of 2024, Haimuxing had signed new orders of 850 million yuan (tax included), and the total number of active orders was 7.1 billion yuan (tax included). Despite abundant on-hand orders, as of the end of 2023, the company's net cash flow from operating activities was -993 million yuan, a sharp decrease of 303.27% over the previous year.

According to business information, Sichuan Huachuan Starlight Medical Technology Co., Ltd. was established on April 25, 2024 with a registered capital of 10 million yuan. The legal representative is Lin Guodong, who is also the chairman and actual controller of the company.
In terms of shareholders, Haimxing Laser Intelligent Equipment (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. holds 80% of the company's shares and is its controlling shareholder; Chengdu Huachuan Starlight Enterprise Management Center (limited partnership) holds 20% of the company's shares.
The person related to Haimuxing mentioned above told the “Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily” reporter that the reason for setting up a medical company in Sichuan “is related, on the one hand, to the fact that the medical and aesthetic industry in Sichuan is more developed; on the other hand, LIANG HOUKUN (Liang Houkun), the academic leader of Haimuxing, returned to Sichuan after graduating from MIT, and is more resource-rich than in Sichuan.”
According to data, Liang Houkun is a director of Haimxing and is currently the deputy director of Haimxing Chengdu Research Institute. He obtained his doctorate degree in optoelectronic engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2011, did postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014-2016, worked at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology from 2016 to 2019, and has been a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Electronics and Information Technology at Sichuan University since 2019.
Liang Houkun's research direction is mid-infrared ultrafast lasers and applications. He holds 25% of the shares in Chengdu Huachuan Starlight Enterprise Management Center (limited partnership), and therefore indirectly holds shares in Sichuan Huachuan Starlight Medical Technology Co., Ltd.
In an investor survey on May 10 this year, Haimu Star also stated that the business scope of Sichuan Huachuan Starlight Medical Technology Co., Ltd. is mainly the production, sale and operation of Class I, Class II, and Class III medical devices. According to the progress of the application, it is expected that a Class II medical device license will be obtained in the second half of this year, and the Class III medical device license is expected to be obtained as soon as the second half of next year.
