Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) made two models debut in Hong Kong, after signing a dealer agreement a month ago to tap the market.

The G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) made their official debuts in Hong Kong on May 17, and both models will be equipped with a next-generation voice-control system that recognizes Cantonese, Xpeng said in a statement today.

The G6 starts at HK$299,900 (US$38,440) for the standard-range version and HK$349,900 for the long-range version at its debut in Hong Kong, Xpeng said.

The intended pre-tax price of the X9 is less than HK$500,000, and the final price will be subject to the final approval of the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department.

The first deliveries of the right-hand drive version of the Xpeng G6 are expected in the third quarter, the company said.

For Xpeng, Hong Kong is a key market in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an important window and bridge to globalization, said Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of the electric vehicle (EV) maker.

Entering the Hong Kong market is strategically important for Xpeng to build its globalization footprint, Gu said.

Xpeng signed a deal with Malaysia's Sime Darby Group on April 9 at its headquarters in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, authorizing the latter to be its official distributor in the Hong Kong market.

Sime Darby will open an Xpeng flagship store in the third quarter, introducing the G6 and X9, with deliveries expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, according to a press release last month.

In addition to Hong Kong, Xpeng also announced last month that it will partner with Macau's Xin Kang Heng Group to offer models including the G9, X9, G6 and P7i there.

Deliveries of left-hand drive Xpeng models are expected to begin in Macau in May this year, the EV maker said previously.
