GLONGHUI, May 11 | A US court jury ruled that Microsoft's Cortana voice assistive technology infringes on a computer communication patent technology from the patent holding company IPA and must pay compensation of US$242 million. A Microsoft spokesperson insisted that the company did not infringe on each other's patents. The IPA sued Microsoft in 2018, alleging that the Cortana voice-assist technology it developed used its patented technology without paying royalties. Microsoft denied the allegations. IPA is a Wi-LAN subsidiary jointly owned by the Canadian company Quarterhill and two investment companies. It acquired a number of patents from SRI International's Siri, including patented technology alleged to be infringed by Microsoft as described above.
