One Civitas Resources Insider Raised Stake By 192% In Previous Year

Simply Wall St ·  May 3 23:23

Insiders were net buyers of Civitas Resources, Inc.'s (NYSE:CIVI ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders bought more stock than they sold.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Civitas Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Chief Administrative Officer & Secretary Travis Counts made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$466k worth of shares at a price of US$68.20 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$70.55. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for Civitas Resources share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. Travis Counts was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Civitas Resources insiders own about US$22m worth of shares. That equates to 0.3% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
