Other netizens added that this layoff may have been a restructuring due to cost reasons. Some teams were completely disbanded, while others merged the two teams into one. It's “a model that benefits people in low cost regions. For example, two teams merged, a higher-cost manager was fired, or an entire team was fired, but those responsibilities are being rearranged by people in lower-paid offices.” On Hacker News, employees within the Google Python team quickly responded, saying that maybe the Munich team will “take back” most or all of their work. “We are a team that has been understaffed for a long time and supports a large part of Google's Python ecosystem, and we've done some amazing work over the years.”
