Recently, Yisheng Biotechnology (01061) released the “2023 Environmental, Social and Governance Report”, which sets out the Group's strategies and practices in the three areas of environmental protection, social responsibility and operational governance for the year ended December 31, 2023, covering the business operated by the Group.

According to reports, Yisheng Biotechnology is mainly engaged in manufacturing, sales, marketing and distribution of pharmaceuticals, and its main operating area is China.

According to the ESG report, Yisheng Biotech's board of directors bears full responsibility for the company's ESG strategy and ESG report, and is responsible for evaluating and determining ESG-related risks and ensuring that applicable and effective ESG risk management and internal production systems have been implemented. At the same time, the Group maintains open communication with stakeholders through multiple channels, promptly understands and responds to stakeholders' opinions and demands, strives to maintain healthy interaction with mutual benefit and win-win results, and promote the sustainable development of the enterprise.

At the environmental level, Yisheng Biotech's Zhuhai plant has a fully equipped production line to produce the group's flagship biologics active pharmaceutical ingredient (i.e. rb-BFGF). During the reporting period, the main emissions from the Group's production process included liquid waste, solid waste, exhaust gas and noise. Exhaust gas emissions come from vehicles used for business operations. In 2023, the Group's nitrogen oxide was 93.29 kg (2022:110.07 kg), and the emission density was 4.91 kg/vehicle, down about 19.8% from 2022 (6.12 kg/vehicle number). The greenhouse gas generated by the group mainly comes from indirect emissions from purchased electricity. In 2023, the group's total greenhouse gas emissions were 4159.82 tons, and the greenhouse gas density was 0.04 kg/unit of production, down about 33.3% from 2022.

Yisheng Biotech encourages employees to abandon the standby mode of all electrical appliances when not in use, including computers, photocopiers and printers; and requires employees to ensure that windows and doors are closed when the air conditioner is turned on, and to turn off the air conditioner during non-working hours. In addition, inverters have been installed on large devices to reduce the consumption of reactive power; and induction bulbs are used instead of traditional bulbs.

At the social level, Yisheng Biotechnology adheres to the principles of equality, voluntarism and consensus, and provides equal development opportunities for all employees under a fair platform. As of December 31, 2023, the group had 1,481 full-time employees, of which 47.4% were male employees and 52.6% were women.

Yisheng Biotechnology attaches importance to the development of employees and provides on-the-job training opportunities. The group uses a training method combining unified management, hierarchical training, management skills and business skills, and arranges targeted training for different positions every year, covering many aspects such as administrative management, quality management, skills, and Chinese studies. At the same time, induction training is provided for new employees, and special training such as clean employment and senior management knowledge is increased for middle and senior management personnel. The perfect training system ensures that each employee's knowledge and skills meet job requirements; education and training grants are also provided to encourage employees to continue their education and self-add value. In 2023, the group organized 1,828 training sessions. The number of participants reached 1,341, with about 50 hours of training per person. The training ratios for production workers, middle management, and senior management were 91%, 8%, and 1%, respectively.

At the supply chain management level, through dynamic management of all suppliers, Yisheng Biotechnology regularly assesses the performance of supply and service quality to identify environmental and social risks in every step of the supply chain; conducts qualification audits to check whether certification certificates are updated; and carries out on-site or video audits from time to time to check and confirm their personnel, plant facilities and equipment, material management, production processes, etc., to comprehensively evaluate their quality assurance system and environmental and social risks to ensure the quality of supplier products and reduce quality risks at the source. For the year ended 31 December 2023, all of the Group's suppliers (443) were located in China, and 26 of them were audited on-site or via video.

Second, the group has put forward environmental protection (including the use of environmentally friendly products) and occupational health and safety requirements to major suppliers; it also regularly conducts partner EHS questionnaires, which positively affect the supplier's ESG situation and meet the needs of sustainable environmental and social development.

Furthermore, while developing its business, Yisheng Biotechnology actively gives back to the community and achieves the harmonious development of the Group and society. It has established the “Yisheng Charity Fund” (the “Fund”), which focuses on education, health and poverty alleviation, with the aim of helping groups in need in the community.
