US FCC will approve T-Mobile US acquisition of Mint Mobile to enhance prepaid services

GLONGHUI, April 26 | The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said on Thursday that it will approve T-Mobile US's deal to acquire Mint Mobile's parent company Ka'ena Corp for no more than US$1.35 billion. Citing T-Mobile's voluntary agreement to implement a 60-day unlock period for all Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile prepaid service devices activated on the T-Mobile network before and after the transaction is completed, the FCC said the agreement would make it easier for customers to switch service providers. T-Mobile said it currently expects to complete the deal on May 1 after receiving regulatory approval. T-Mobile said last year that the acquisition agreement included 39% of cash and 61% of shares, and the final purchase price would be determined based on Ka'ena's performance in a specific period before and after the transaction was completed.
