[Daily Weather Tracking] Temperatures and precipitation in most regions of the United States will be close to or above normal for the next 6 to 10 days

Golden10 Data ·  Apr 23 21:16

The US National Weather Service predicts a 6-10 day forecast for the period from April 28 to May 2 that temperatures and precipitation are likely to be close to or above normal levels in most parts of the US.

The following are US agricultural weather tips for Tuesday, April 23, 2024, compiled exclusively by the Jin10 Futures App

Western US region

Warm, dry weather dominates the Pacific Northwest and regions from California to the southern Rocky Mountains. On April 21, the area under cotton cultivation in Arizona reached 42%, which is equivalent to the average of 41% over the past five years. Meanwhile, cool weather continues in the northwestern part of the country, although temperatures are not as low as those observed in recent days.

American Plains

Most dry weather is accompanied by temperatures close to or below normal. Drought continues to adversely affect winter wheat in the Central and Southern Great Plains. From April 14 to 21, the proportion of wheat crops rated as good to excellent in Kansas fell from 43% to 36%, and in Oklahoma from 60% to 49%. As of April 21, Kansas led the US in the proportion of wheat rated as very poor — 26%, up 7 percentage points from a week earlier.

American corn growing belt

Sporadic showers extended from Michigan to Missouri. Small, humid areas continue to hinder field work in parts of the eastern corn belt. On April 21, surface soil moisture in Ohio was rated 44% excessive, 35% in Indiana, and 33% in Michigan. However, due to rapid field work in most parts of the western corn belt, as of April 21, corn and soybean cultivation progress was 12% and 8% of the country, respectively, still ahead of the average of 10% and 4% over the past five years.

Southern region of the United States

Frosts and slight freezes were observed this morning in the central and southern Appalachian Mountains and in many lower elevations in Virginia and North Carolina. Producers continue to monitor temperature-sensitive crops, including flowering fruit trees and harvested winter wheat, in areas where freezing has occurred. Elsewhere in the south, cool, dry weather continues to promote field work. As of April 21, more than half (59%) of the country's planned rice cultivation area has already been planted, far ahead of the average of 35% over the past five years.

Weather outlook

A calm weather pattern will gradually come to an end in the second half of the week as a pair of storm systems emerge from the western United States. Over a period of 4 to 5 days, the two systems will pass through the central Great Plains and then to the Great Lakes. The total rainfall for five days should reach 1 to 3 inches or more in most of the Great Plains, the Midwest, and the Mid-South, with some severe thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall. Significant rainfall will, however, bypass some regions, including critical winter wheat production areas in the central and southern High Plains. Areas near the Gulf Coast and South Atlantic should also receive little or no rain. Although the threat of frost in the east will be drastically reduced, cold conditions will continue for several days from the Midwest to the Northeast.

The US National Weather Service predicts a 6-10 day forecast for the period from April 28 to May 2 that temperatures and precipitation are likely to be close to or above normal levels in most parts of the US. Conditions below normal will be confined to the northwest, while drier than normal weather should be limited to areas along and around the southern Atlantic coast.
