Tesla said during the “trough period” that it was forced to delay Cybertruck delivery due to “unexpected delays,” and many prospective car owners said on the forum that the reason may be related to the “accelerator pedal.”

Wave after wave, wave after wave,$Tesla (TSLA.US)$Due to weak deliveries in the first quarter and global layoffs of more than 10% and stock prices continued to fall, the latest electric pickup truck Cybertruck is also facing delivery delays.

On April 15, media reported that Tesla had issued a notice to prospective car owners who had booked Cybertruck saying that due to “unexpected delays in vehicle preparation,” the original delivery plan had to be put on hold for the time being.

Tesla Cybertruck went on sale in November 2023 and delivery began one after another. However, according to the latest reports, several prospective car owners who have ordered Cybertruck have posted documents stating that the Cybertruck was originally scheduled to be delivered over the weekend, and Tesla recently announced that the delivery schedule had changed. Due to production issues, delivery needs to be delayed. Currently, it is uncertain when the delay will be made, and the delivery time will be announced again after confirmation.

Max Pyko, a Cybertruck buyer, said he was scheduled to pick up the car on April 13, but received an SMS informing him that the delivery was delayed. The new delivery date may be April 20.

Tesla said in a text message to Pyko: “We just learned that there was an unexpected delay in preparing your vehicle. We need to cancel your delivery appointment for tomorrow and we'll contact you again when we can reschedule your schedule.”

Tesla said in a second message to Pyko: “Judging from the current situation, it will take at least April 20 to resolve this issue, and it may take longer. Tesla is working to ship the improved parts to all affected locations as soon as possible.”

According to comments on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, many car owners have received notifications that their pick-up plans have been postponed.

It is currently unclear what caused the delay, but some car owners said that the dealer told them that their vehicle was recalled due to an accelerator pedal problem, while another car owner claimed that Tesla sent a text message explaining that the reason for the delay in delivery was related to the accelerator pedal. Other car owners received text messages that generally mentioned “there was a problem with vehicle preparation.”

A Cybertruck owner posted a video on social media showing his accelerator pedal “always in 100% throttle state” after getting stuck. The car owner said that stepping on the brakes would stop the vehicle from continuing to accelerate, but it would speed up again after releasing the brakes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Tuesday that it has taken note of the issue and is “in touch with the manufacturer to gather more information.”

In January, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Tesla is recalling nearly 2.2 million cars in the US because the braking, parking, and anti-lock braking warning lights on the instrument panel did not meet the requirements, and the scope of this recall includes the Cybertruck, which has just recently gone on sale.

Since this year, Tesla has faced delivery difficulties. Tesla deliveries experienced “Waterloo” in the first quarter. Tesla deliveries fell 8.5% year on year to about 386,800 vehicles, while the month-on-month drop was more than 20%, far lower than analysts' previous expectations of 449,000 vehicles, breaking the biggest margin in record time.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives called it “an unexplained disaster,” despite previous poor expectations. This disappointing result also suggests that it may be difficult for Tesla to meet first-quarter earnings expectations that have been lowered by Wall Street.

Overnight in US stocks, Tesla had the highest decline for two consecutive days, closing down 2.7% and falling for three consecutive days, breaking the closing low since April 26, 2023. The decline has reached 36.7% so far this year.
