AMD claims that compared to the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U, the Ryzen Pro 8040 series can improve the video conferencing performance of commercial notebooks by up to 72% and reduce power consumption by up to 84%; compared to the Intel Core i7 14700, the Ryzen Pro 8000 series can increase the performance of commercial desktops by up to 47% and increase graphics performance by up to three times; HP and Lenovo products equipped with these new chips will be launched in the second quarter.

$Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$Empowering the field of artificial intelligence (AI) computers, a new batch of chips is being used to steal Nvidia's cake.

On Tuesday, April 16, EST, AMD announced the launch of two new products, the Ryzen (Ryzen) Pro 8040 series and the AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 series, expanding its commercial mobile and desktop AI personal computer (PC) product portfolio to provide enterprise users with excellent productivity and high-quality AI and networking experiences.

Both new products use a 4 nm (nm) process. Among them, the Ryzen Pro 8040 series is suitable for notebooks. AMD says it's the most advanced x86 processor built for commercial laptops and mobile workstations. The Ryzen Pro 8000 series is for desktops. It is the first AI-enabled desktop processor for business users, providing cutting-edge performance with low power consumption.

Up to 72% faster video conferencing performance compared to Intel Core Ultra 7 165U Ryzen Pro 8040 series

According to AMD, the Ryzen Pro 8040 series has up to 8 high-performance cores. Using the Zen 4 CPU architecture, it can increase the total performance of the most demanding mobile workstation applications by 30%. AMD claims that this series is the world's fastest commercial notebook with 86 processors.

With select models of AMD Ryzen AI and the powerful AMD RDNA 3 graphics card integrated into the chip, the Ryzen Pro 8040 series can improve video conferencing performance by up to 72% and reduce power consumption by up to 84% compared to the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U processor, regardless of whether the AI experience is enabled or not.

Computers equipped with Ryzen Pro 8040 series processors will be the first computers to use WiFi-7 technology, providing cutting-edge networking capabilities and becoming the new industry standard.

The highest-end Ryzen 9 Pro 8945HS in the series has 8 cores, 16 threads, 24MB of cache, and a Radeon 780M graphics card.

The table below shows the various chip configurations for the entire Ryzen Pro 8040 series.

Up to 47% more performance than the Intel Core i7 14700 Ryzen PRO 8000 series

AMD is the first x86 processor vendor to introduce AI-processing NPUs (Neural Processing Units) to the mobile and desktop PC markets. According to AMD, the Ryzen Pro 8000 series processor is a leader among desktop and mobile AI processors. Whether it is desktop-specific NPU TOPS computing power or mobile-specific NPU TOPS computing power, it surpasses Intel's competitors.

Ryzen Pro 8000 series processors are equipped with the first AI engine for some desktops, providing an immersive AI experience with high performance and efficiency. This series of chips has up to 8 high-performance Zen 4 cores.

Compared to the Intel Core i7 14700 processor, commercial desktops equipped with the Ryzen Pro 8000 series improved performance by up to 47% and graphics performance by up to three times in selected tests.

Desktops equipped with Ryzen ProPro 8000 series processors support DDR5 and PCIe 4, which enables high-speed data transmission, makes desktop workflows smoother, and allows faster access to business-critical applications and data. Some models can enable Wi-Fi 7 networking.

The highest-configured processor in this series is the Ryzen 8700G, which has 8 high-performance cores and 16 threads, 24MB cache, and an integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics card. In tests compared to competing products, the Ryzen 8700G increased performance by 19% while consuming less power, providing professionals with the performance they need for every workload. The table below shows the various chip configurations for the entire Ryzen Pro 8000 series.

HP and Lenovo products equipped with AMD's new chips will be available in the second quarter

According to AMD, it is expected that starting from the second quarter of this year, HP and Lenovo products will use the new chip products mentioned above. Among them, Ryzen PRO 8040 series mobile processors are expected to be supplied by OEM partners such as HP and Lenovo starting in the second quarter. Ryzen PRO 8000 series desktop processors are expected to be available on HP and Lenovo and select AMD channel partner platforms starting in the second quarter.

Specifically, HP's newest Elite and Pro computers and Z series mobile workstations will be equipped with new AMD products. Lenovo's ThinkCentre commercial desktop will be equipped with Ryzen Pro 8000 series chips.

In addition, Microsoft is continuing to expand the functions of its AI assistant Copilot to bring more AI features to AMD-powered Windows systems, so that new features can improve productivity, increase security, and daily business use.

James Howell, general manager of Microsoft's Windows business, said that Microsoft will further optimize performance and enhance security features on Windows 11 desktop and mobile systems supported by Ryzen.

Regarding AMD's new chips, some posts on social media X focused on Zen architecture and AI engines, saying that Zen architecture and AI engines were introduced to the commercial market, and some indicated that AI processing units were added to the new products.
