Big Bank earnings, March housing data: What to Watch

The first-quarter earnings season is in full swing, with major companies reporting their results throughout the day on Tuesday, April 16. Among them include Big Bank stocks Bank of America (BAC), Morgan Stanley (MS), and PNC Financial Services Group (PNC).

Market Domination Overtime's Julie Hyman and Josh Lipton highlight the other companies also set to report earnings and the US housing starts print expected out tomorrow.

JULIE HYMAN: Time now for what to watch, Tuesday, April 16. Let's take a look at earnings first of all. UnitedHealth Group to report first quarter results before the opening bell. Investors are keeping an eye out for the financial impact stemming from that cyberattack in February on its Change Healthcare subsidiary. Also within the healthcare space, we've got Johnson & Johnson set to report its first quarter numbers. Meanwhile, for financials, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, BNY Mellon, and PNC all reporting earnings ahead of the market open as well.

JOSH LIPTON: And turning to after the closing bell, United Airlines deliver first quarter financial results commentary on FAA investigations. The fallout from troubles with Boeing jetliners to be a point of focus for investors. Poor coming after competitor Delta posted strong quarterly results and upbeat guidance. Investors can also expect results from J.B. Hunt Transport and Interactive Brokers after the market closed.

JULIE HYMAN: And meanwhile, on the economic front, the US Census Bureau releasing a new batch of data on the housing market. We've got building permits and housing starts for the month of March expected to fall compared to February. That's a month where residential starts saw a rebound after weather-related weakness.
