Asbury Automotive Group Insiders Sold US$3.0m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 6 20:20

In the last year, many Asbury Automotive Group, Inc. (NYSE:ABG) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Asbury Automotive Group

The Senior Vice President of Operations, Daniel Clara, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.1m worth of shares at a price of US$237 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$224. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.
