The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that the US Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) has conducted a preliminary assessment of Stellantis's K1 snap ring failure in 2022 RAM 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks.

The Zhitong Finance App learned that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that the US Defect Investigation Office (ODI) has conducted a preliminary assessment of Stellantis (STLA.US)'s K1 snap ring failure in 2022 RAM 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks.

NHTSA said ODI has received 82 complaints alleging loss of power due to internal transmission failure of the K1 snap ring.

NHTSA said 16 of these complaints described a complete loss of power when the vehicle was over 25 mph and the vehicle was unable to resume normal operation. The complaint alleges that during the fault, the snap ring fell off and the first to fourth gears of the forward gear no longer worked, which could make the vehicle unusable.

According to NHTSA, the company's US subsidiary FCA has carried out some tests and said that in this case, a warning message will be displayed to the operator, and the 5th gear and reverse gear are still usable.
