Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Signet Jewelers

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 29 18:47

Some Signet Jewelers Limited (NYSE:SIG) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that insider Joan Hilson recently sold a substantial US$742k worth of stock at a price of US$92.69 per share. However, that sale only accounted for 4.6% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

Signet Jewelers Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Joan Hilson was the biggest sale of Signet Jewelers shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$100. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 4.6%of Joan Hilson's holding.
