According to reports,$Apple (AAPL.US)$The new iPad is scheduled to be launched in early May to boost tablet sales, and a global developer conference will be held on June 10 to showcase artificial intelligence strategies and new technologies.

On March 28, the media quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Apple plans to officially release an upgraded version of the new iPad Pro and iPad Air in early May. Among them, the Pro model will be equipped with a sharper OLED display, while the iPad Air will launch a 12.9-inch screen option for the first time. OLED (organic light-emitting diode) is a display technology that provides more vivid colors and deeper blacks to enhance the viewing experience.

Furthermore, Apple's overseas suppliers have already sped up production of the much-anticipated new iPad before it was released in May.

Since the iPad was last updated, there have been no new iPad products for about 18 months, and this gap period has caused the overall demand for tablets in the market to weaken. Although iPad sales have risen during the pandemic, Apple's sales have declined over the past two fiscal years (each fiscal year ends in September). During the recent holiday season, when iPads were generally popular gifts, sales dropped another 25% year over year.

This iPad update may end the iPad's 18-month history of no new models being released. Furthermore, Apple hopes that the new iPad with a faster processor and new accessories will revive the market's interest in tablets, thereby boosting tablet sales.

Apple has not made an official comment on these sales figures.

Pro and Air series welcome major updates: Pro is equipped with M3 chip, Air is equipped with a larger screen

According to reports, there are four new iPad Pro models, namely J717, J718, J720, and J721. These new models will be equipped with a brand new M3 chip and will support the redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. This update is the first complete overhaul of the series since 2018.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air was last updated in 2022, when it was equipped with an M1 chip. According to reports, the new iPad Air will be equipped with a new processor. Additionally, the new iPad Air will offer a 12.9-inch screen size option, meaning consumers can get a big-screen iPad at a lower price than the higher-end Pro series.

Currently, because the Pro series provides more high-end performance, the starting price of the iPad Air is $599, while the price of the Pro series is 200 dollars higher than the Air series.

According to media reports, Apple originally planned to release the new iPad at the end of March or the beginning of April, but due to factors such as Apple's continuous efforts to complete software development for these devices and the need for complex new manufacturing technology for the latest iPad screens, the iPad release time was delayed.

Apple plans to release new products in early May, one month before Apple's 35th Global Developers Conference. On June 10, Apple plans to launch a week-long global developer conference. At that time, it will announce Apple's AI strategy and software updates for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Vision Pro headsets.
