According to a recent poll, US President Joe Biden's approval rating has recently begun to rise. He has narrowed the gap with former President and Republican Trump in six of the seven key swing states, and has tied or overtaken in three of them.

A total of 4,932 registered voters were interviewed in this survey. The voters came from 7 swing states, namely Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The overall margin of error was 1 percentage point.

According to polls, Trump's overall approval rating in the seven swing states is still 47% to 43% ahead of Biden, but Biden has caught up with Trump in Pennsylvania and Michigan, and is 1 percentage point ahead of Trump in Wisconsin.

Additionally, Biden has narrowed the gap with Trump in Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina. Trump extended his lead in Georgia. Note that in some cases, this change is within the margin of error.

Trump previously maintained a clear advantage for five months. The reason why Biden was able to close the gap is related to his State of the Union address delivered earlier this month. In his speech, Biden mainly promoted his achievements during his tenure, while not forgetting to criticize Trump. Biden showed vitality in his speech, which allayed voters' concerns about his age.

It is worth mentioning that nearly half of Biden's supporters chose to support him because they dislike Trump. By contrast, less than 30% of Trump's supporters support Biden out of opposition to him.

Both Biden and Trump locked down their parties' presidential nominations this month. If there are no surprises, the two will face off head-to-head again in the US presidential election in November this year.

In a situation where the two candidates are evenly matched, the impact of these seven key swing states on the US election is critical. Biden won 6 of the 7 swing states in the 2020 election and lost to North Carolina by a 1.3% margin.
