“Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily”, March 27 — After announcing that “Zhiji L6 will launch the first mass-produced ultra-fast rechargeable solid-state battery to completely solve the mileage anxiety of pure electric vehicles,” Liu Tao, Co-CEO of Zhiji Auto, conducted a live broadcast with Li Zheng, co-founder and general manager of Qingtao Energy, on the evening of March 26 to introduce the solid-state battery.

According to the live broadcast, this solid state battery is a semi-solid state battery; the cost is “slightly higher” than the current ternary lithium battery. Furthermore, Li Zheng revealed that based on the Quasi-900V high-voltage architecture of the Zhiji L6, the solid-state battery can achieve “400 kilometers of battery life after 10 minutes of charging”; Liu Tao said that the four-wheel drive version of the Zhiji L6 will have a maximum range of 1,000 kilometers, while the two-wheel drive version will be even higher.

The Zhiji L6 is expected to be officially launched in May 2024. The brokerage firm expects the price of the solid state version to drop further compared to the previous price of 428,000 yuan for the NIO ET7 solid state version, and sales are expected to strengthen.

Although Liu Tao's statement on the 25th once raised questions in the industry about “playing a word game,” it is undeniable that as various manufacturers step up mass production and application, the commercialization of semi-solid state batteries is already dawning:

Huineng Technology's solid-state battery production line has been officially put into operation. The initial production capacity is 0.5 GWh, and the maximum production capacity can reach 2 GWh. It can be charged 80% in 12 minutes, and the battery life exceeds 1,000 kilometers. Samples have been sent to various new energy vehicle companies for testing;

Guoxuan Hi-Tech's 260 Wh/kg energy density and 160 kWh ternary semi-solid state battery packs have been installed and used. 360Wh/kg ternary semi-solid state batteries will be mass-produced in 2024.

The semi-solid state route is a minor change to the existing liquid lithium-ion battery system, and is regarded as an all-solid transition route.

According to the March 26 report of Everbright Securities, the semi-solid-state battery supply chain has a high degree of overlap with the existing supply chain, and the impact on the industrial chain is limited. Priority will be given to commercialization starting with high-end scenarios such as aviation aircraft, medical use, and consumer electronics. Now that semi-solid state batteries have reached an inflection point, all-solid-state batteries are expected to be commercialized around 2030.
