Ningde Era and Tesla are collaborating on battery technology, particularly on new electrochemical structures, to achieve faster charging speeds.

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on March 25, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of Ningde Times, said in an interview that the Ningde Era is supplying equipment to Tesla's plant in Nevada. The two sides are also collaborating on battery technology, particularly on new electrochemical structures to achieve faster charging speeds.

On March 16, Hou Jinlong, director of Huawei and president of Huawei Digital Energy, said at the China Electric Vehicle 100 People's Conference Forum that in 2024, Huawei Digital Energy will plan to work with customers and partners to jointly deploy more than 100,000 ultra-fast charging piles. Currently, 20,000 ultra-fast charging stations have been put into operation.

On August 16 of last year, Ningde Times released the world's first 4C supercharged battery, Shenxing, which uses lithium iron phosphate materials and can be mass-produced on a large scale. It achieved an ultra-fast charging speed of “10 minutes of charging, 400 km battery life”, and reached a battery range of more than 700 kilometers, greatly alleviating users' anxiety about energy supplementation.

Wu Kai, chief scientist of the Ningde Era, believes that current user needs are changing, the battery life problem of new energy vehicles has basically been solved, and rapid energy supplementation has become an issue that consumers are more concerned about. To further expand the NEV market, the best method is to develop ultra-fast charging, shorten charging time, and effectively solve users' anxiety about energy supplementation.

According to reports, currently, the mainstream charging rate of various car companies is probably between 1C-2C. 1C means that the battery system can be fully charged in 60 minutes, 2C can be fully charged within 30 minutes, 3C can be charged within one-third of an hour, and 4C means that the battery can be fully charged in 15 minutes.

Since Porsche released its first model, the Taycan, equipped with an 800V high-voltage platform, high-voltage fast charging has always been regarded as an exclusive configuration for electric sports cars. More and more new car builders and independent traditional car companies are beginning to bet on 800V high voltage platforms, seeing this as a major solution to charging anxiety. Currently, models equipped with 800V high-voltage platforms include Avita 11, Extreme Fox Alpha SHI Edition, GAC Aeon AionVPlus, and Xiaopeng G9.

Currently, fast charging for new energy vehicles is mainly a 400V high-current charging method, and an increase in current will cause large energy loss. The next generation of fast charging models will basically be based on the 800V architecture. According to the “China High Voltage Fast Charging Industry Development Report”, the domestic 800V model sales penetration rate will reach 50% by the end of 2026.

In January of this year, in the overseas power battery market, the installed capacity of the Ningde Era reached 5.7 GWh, an increase of 28.5% over January last year. The market share reached 25.8%, surpassing South Korea's LG New Energy and topping the list. The share of installed equipment in the overseas market of the Ningde Era continued to expand, mainly due to the sharp increase in overseas market sales of models from international car companies such as the Tesla Model 3/Y (China exports to Europe, North America, and Asia), BMW, MG, Mercedes, and Volvo.

In addition to China, regions such as Europe and North America have become major global incremental markets for electric vehicles. The agency expects European NEV sales to be close to 4 million units in 2024, and will continue to grow rapidly in the next few years. By 2025, demand for power batteries in Europe is expected to reach 550 GWh, and further increase to 1000 GWh by 2030. According to research firm Wood Mackenzie, the US utility-scale battery market is expected to grow 36% this year, reaching more than 10 gigawatts.

The Dongguan Securities Research Report pointed out that high-voltage fast charging models are ushering in volume, leading new opportunities in the industrial chain. Currently, after the NEV industry gradually achieves overcharging and battery life for electric vehicles, the demand for rapid energy replenishment is becoming more and more prominent, and high-voltage fast charging has become the mainstream trend. In 2023, 800V high-voltage fast charging models will be launched intensively, and the volume can be expected in 2024. Demand for high-power fast charging piles and fast charging batteries has exploded, and the iterative upgrading of the industrial chain will bring incremental demand to high-quality enterprises.

Ping An Securities Research Report pointed out that high-voltage fast charging and the 46-series large cylinder are being implemented at an accelerated pace, opening up new growth space. The industry continues to be booming, and attention is being paid to ultra-fast charging and large cylindrical batteries. In terms of fast charging batteries and materials, we continue to be optimistic about the Ningde Era, Rongbai Technology, Hunan Yuneng, German Nano, Betray, Shanshan Co., Ltd., Putailai, Tianci Materials, Kangpeng Technology, etc., which have deep technology accumulation in the fast charging battery industry chain.
