In addition, construction of the second phase of the complex has begun to accelerate, and other projects on the site, such as supercharging stations, are gradually taking shape.
Drone aerial photography of the Gigafactory complex No. 3 shows that most of the land in the Phase II area is being prepared for construction. According to footage taken by drone operator Jason Yang and Tesla enthusiast Chao Chao, the pile driver for the Phase II project has been withdrawn and replaced with a large flat plot of land and many columns. Roof trusses were also put in place during initial work in the Phase II area.
Chao Zhou said, “It's really unbelievable. We saw the same pillars in the first phase of the project seven months ago. The second phase of the project is progressing faster than the first phase of the project. Many buildings of uncertain use are currently being built, and you can imagine what the factory of the future will look like.”
The construction progress of the second phase of the project shows that the expansion of the new area seems to be faster than the construction of the first phase assembly building. After all, the roof trusses of the first phase of the project took a few months, but it seems that workers only took a few weeks to begin installing the same columns and roof trusses for the second phase.
In addition to the busy second phase of the project, Tesla and its engineering partners seem to have made significant progress in the factory's supercharging stations. Recent images of the supercharging station show that, apart from installing the actual charging stations, most of the work on the charging station has been completed.
According to Chinese media reports, Tesla is gaining momentum in the domestic electric vehicle market. Even before the launch of Gigafactory 3, Tesla China's import data showed that the electric car maker's annual imports increased 168% year over year, thanks in large part to the Model 3. In August 2019 alone, China imported more than 3,700 Tesla vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 468%.
According to reports, Gigafactory 3 will begin production of Model 3 this month. Leaked images from inside the factory and the complete vehicle in the test lane suggest that trial production of the Model 3 appears to have begun. The leaked images of the assembly building also showed that the vehicle had been painted, indicating that the paint shop at the facility was already in operation.
China is Tesla's key market, and Tesla is also a key supplier of electric vehicles in China.
