People familiar with the matter told the “Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily” reporter that Apple had discussions with Ali and another major domestic model company from Tsinghua, and finally decided that Baidu would provide this service. Apple uses domestic big model AI functions for devices such as the Bank of China's iPhones mainly due to compliance requirements. The company has not been able to resolve compliance issues in the short term, but the AI functions of overseas iPhones and other devices all come from Apple's own big models.

Earlier, during Baidu's earnings call for the fourth quarter and full year of 2023, Baidu founder, chairman and CEO Li Yanhong revealed that the number of daily calls to the Wenxin Big Model has exceeded 50 million times, an increase of 190% over the quarter; in December 2023, about 26,000 companies used the Wenxin Big Model, an increase of 150% over the quarter.
In terms of cooperative customers, according to Baidu's earlier disclosure, companies such as Samsung, Honor, and Auto Home all reached cooperation with Baidu in 2023. Take Samsung as an example. Its latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 series, integrates multiple capabilities of Wenxin's large model, including calls, translation, and smart summarization.
Li Yanhong also said during the conference call at the time that since it was released, Baidu has continuously reduced the reasoning cost of Wenxin's big model, which has now been reduced to 1% of the March version last year. As the cost of inference decreases, more and more users and businesses are starting to use the Wenxin Big Model.
Specifically, regarding the revenue growth brought about by the big model, Li Yanhong revealed that Baidu Smart Cloud's total revenue for the fourth quarter of last year was 8.4 billion yuan, of which the big model brought about 660 million yuan in incremental revenue to the cloud business.
According to public data, as of December 31, 2023, Wenxin's number of users has exceeded 100 million.
Wenxin is currently preparing a version update. At that time, long text capabilities will be opened up, and the text range will be 2 million to 5 million words. Currently, the maximum text limit for Wenxin's words is roughly 28,000 characters.
