After Leaping 25% Beijing SinoHytec Co., Ltd. (SHSE:688339) Shares Are Not Flying Under The Radar

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 21 06:48

Beijing SinoHytec Co., Ltd. (SHSE:688339) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 25% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 32% over that time.

After such a large jump in price, given around half the companies in China's Machinery industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 2.9x, you may consider Beijing SinoHytec as a stock to avoid entirely with its 8.4x P/S ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly elevated P/S.

How Has Beijing SinoHytec Performed Recently?

With revenue growth that's inferior to most other companies of late, Beijing SinoHytec has been relatively sluggish. It might be that many expect the uninspiring revenue performance to recover significantly, which has kept the P/S ratio from collapsing. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Keen to find out how analysts think Beijing SinoHytec's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Beijing SinoHytec's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 8.5% last year. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see revenue up by 40% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the six analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 102% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 27% growth forecast for the broader industry.

In light of this, it's understandable that Beijing SinoHytec's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.

What Does Beijing SinoHytec's P/S Mean For Investors?

The strong share price surge has lead to Beijing SinoHytec's P/S soaring as well. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

As we suspected, our examination of Beijing SinoHytec's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. Unless these conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.

You always need to take note of risks, for example - Beijing SinoHytec has 1 warning sign we think you should be aware of.
