Sina Tech News reported on the morning of September 22, Beijing time,FacebookTens of thousands of apps on the platform have been temporarily disabled, it said on Friday. Facebook began investigating app developers in March 2018 to respond to the controversy sparked by Cambridge Analysis.
Facebook said that the temporarily suspended apps involved around 400 app developers, but pointed out that this does not indicate that these apps definitely pose a threat to users.
Earlier this year, Facebook agreed to pay a record $5 billion fine to the US Federal Trade Commission (FC) to reach a settlement over the government's investigation into the company's privacy practices.
The FTC's privacy investigation into Facebook began last year. At the time, there were allegations that Facebook had violated an agreement reached in 2012 and improperly shared information on 87 million users with British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica.
Subsequently, Facebook agreed to strengthen the protection of user data and restricted the platform user information that third party developers can request.
Facebook said in a blog post: “We are making progress. We weren't able to find all of the issues, and we needed help from outside of Facebook to find some of them.” (Li Li)
