On September 20, the “Science Exploration Award” initiated by Tencent was officially presented. 50 science and technology workers will receive a total of 150 million yuan from Tencent.

According to reports, the award was launched on the 20th anniversary of Tencent's founding in 2018. However, this award is not Tencent's internal award. The sponsors include Rao Yi, Yang Zhenning, Mao Shude, He Huawu, Wu Hequan, Li Peigen, Chen 11, Zhang Yitang, Shi Yigong, Gao Wen, Xie Kechang, Cheng Taining, Xie Xiaoliang, and Pan Jianwei.

The award will be given to mainland Chinese scientists aged 45 and under, mainly in the fields of basic science and cutting-edge technology. At this year's event, the “Science Exploration Award” management committee received a total of 1,335 valid application materials. After extensive screening and defense, 50 winners were finally selected. These 50 people will receive a prize of 3 million yuan funded by the Tencent Foundation over the next 5 years.
