Malaysian Shares End Flat on Week's Close; Reneuco's Shares Slump Over 21%

Malaysian shares ended flat but in the red territory for the second straight session on Friday, as investors could not find positive cues.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, shed 0.08 points to end 0.01% lower at 1,512.28. The day ranged between 1,509.56 and 1,514.72.

In economic news, Malaysia's unemployment rate stood at 3.3% in December 2023, unchanged from a month earlier, according to data released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia. The jobless rate was below the 3.4% forecast.

The total revenue of Malaysian services sector companies posted at 591.4 billion ringgits in the fourth quarter of 2023, up 6.6% on year, and up 1.3% from the third quarter, the official statistics showed.

In corporate news, shares of the energy infrastructure company Reneuco (KLSE:RENEUCO) plunged over 21%, and those of the construction engineering company TWL Holdings (KLSE:TWL) slumped about 13% today.

Meanwhile, shares of construction company Widad Group (KLSE:WIDAD) dropped 4% at the week's close.
