Gelonghui, December 2 | In Chengdu, Sichuan, the first unmanned vertical plant factory independently developed by the Institute of Urban Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences was put into use. An unmanned vertical plant factory is an efficient agricultural system that continuously produces food every year in a multi-storey building. This system can be used for food production in cities or in the Gobi Desert and wasteland. It has obvious advantages in solving the stable supply of food nearby in cities and other places and expanding arable land space in the future. The research team of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences pioneered the establishment of plant light formulations and theoretical methods for improving light efficiency, which overcame the global problem of “low light efficiency and high energy consumption” in plant factories. The 20-story vertical unmanned plant factory currently being built is the first case in the world.
