The price war raged until the end of the year.

1,132 cars on display, 59 world premieres, 469 new energy vehicles... On November 17, the 2023 Guangzhou International Auto Show arrived as scheduled.

The theme of this auto show was “New Technology · New Life”. More than 1,000 cars on display landed in Yangcheng. At the last domestic A-class auto show of the year, they showed off their intelligent muscles.

Meanwhile, the end of the year is quietly approaching, and the 2023 auto market will soon come to an end. After experiencing a long loss of “gold, nine silver, ten,” the China Automobile Association optimistically predicts that this year's annual automobile sales will completely exceed expectations, reaching a record high of 30 million units.

In the middle of this year, the level of competition in the car market was probably unprecedented. This was unmistakably revealed at this year's Guangzhou Auto Show.

Independent brands compete for supremacy

It is already difficult for car companies without new energy to make waves in the market.

At this year's Guangzhou Auto Show, new energy models and related technologies, if there are no surprises, are unrelenting protagonists. Whether it is a joint venture brand or an independent brand, the prominent position of the booth is basically occupied by new energy models, and fuel vehicles are often on the edge of the booth.

Judging from the number of cars exhibited at the Guangzhou International Auto Show, there were 59 world premieres, including 8 from multinational companies; 20 concept cars, including 9 from international brands; new energy vehicles undoubtedly became the focus of this year's Guangzhou Auto Show, with 469 new energy vehicles, 119 cars from foreign brands, and a total of 1,132.

In terms of participating brands, major international automobile brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Ford, Lincoln, Volvo, and Lexus all appeared. FAW, Dongfeng, SAIC, BAIC, Changan, GAC, Geely, Great Wall, and BYD also brought their main models to the exhibition.

In terms of new forces, NIO, Xiaopeng, Ideal, Zero Run, Nana, Jigyue, Co-Chuang, Rantu, and Avita all launched their own new models or flagship products to compete on the same stage with traditional car companies.

Among them, MEGA, the first pure electric MPV model under Ideal Auto, attracted a lot of traffic, and the new car that disrupted the traditional MPV appearance became a “mecca” for taking photos and checking in. It is reported that reservations for Ideal MEGA will officially begin at 9:40 today, and the price will be within 600,000 yuan. Delivery of new cars will also begin to be delivered to users in late February.

Xiaopeng Motor released its first MPV, the Xiaopeng X9, officially known as “the world's only pure electric MPV with standard rear-wheel steering and dual-chamber air suspension”. The support of the high-end intelligent driving system has kept the Xiaopeng X9's attention high, compounded by its youthful and avant-garde look. It is expected to be exhibited in stores in December 2023 and delivered in January 2024.

Krypton officially unveiled and pre-sold its first pure electric sedan, the Extreme Krypton 007. In terms of intelligent driving, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 8295 chip, a 15.05 inch 2.5K OLED screen, supports three-way active deflection, and a 35.5-inch AR-HUD head-up display. Up to 508 TOPS is equipped with dual Orin X intelligent driving chips. The new car will be launched and delivered in early January '24.

This time, the full-scene flagship SUV M9, which is deeply empowered by Huawei, debuted at the auto show, while the Zhijie S7, built jointly by Huawei and Chery, was placed in booth C as Hongmeng Zhixing's first sedan. According to the introduction, it is produced on a new platform built using Huawei's full-stack smart car solution, and is equipped with leading technologies such as the Huawei Turing smart chassis, the HarmonyOS 4 smart cockpit, and the HUAWEI ADS 2.0 advanced intelligent driver assistance system.

Industry insiders judge that China is participating in the exhibition as Hongmeng Zhixing this time, representing the further entry of Huawei's layout in the automotive sector into the deep water zone.

It is worth mentioning that in an interview with Chedi, Yu Chengdong revealed that after questioning the world and the intellectual community, there will also be two “circles,” from BAIC and JAC.

The Zero Sport C10 debuted at the Guangzhou International Auto Show. As the first global product under LEAP 3.0 technology, the Zero Run C10 will be equipped with a “four-leaf clover” centrally integrated electronic and electrical architecture, and will be equipped with forward-looking technologies such as CTC 2.0 technology and the 8295 cockpit system. The “four-leaf clover” centralized electronic and electrical architecture enables seamless and efficient collaboration between the core components of smart electric vehicles.

Car companies start the final battle of the year

Since it was founded in 2003, the Guangzhou International Auto Show has gone through 20 years of ups and downs. For the domestic automobile industry, this year has a unique background.

From January to October of this year, China's automobile production and sales reached a total of 24.016 million units and 23.967 million units, up 8% and 9.1% respectively over the previous year. Among them, passenger car production and sales reached a total of 207.31 million units and 206.64 million units, up 6% and 7.5% respectively from the previous year. The total production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 7.352 million units and 7.28 million units, up 33.9% and 37.8%, respectively. Overall car sales have reached a new level.

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, China exported 2.34 million vehicles, a sharp increase of 76.9% over the previous year, surpassing Japan, the largest automobile exporter in the past, and becoming the country with the highest automobile export volume in the world in the first half of this year.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers recently released a sales forecast for the whole of this year. According to reports, as we enter the golden autumn of October, auto shows and promotional activities are being carried out in full swing in many places. Major car companies continue to release new models, and the number of visitors entering stores has increased markedly, which has strongly boosted automobile consumption. Chen Shihua, deputy secretary general of the China Automobile Association, said that judging from the performance of the car market in the first 10 months of this year, domestic automobile sales will reach a record high this year, and may exceed 30 million vehicles.

The China Automobile Association predicts that as the effects of the country's policies to stabilize economic growth continue to show, along with the continuation of measures such as local car purchase subsidies and promotional activities, as well as the effects of the end of the year, demand will continue to grow in the fourth quarter, and the automobile industry is expected to achieve its annual goals relatively well.
