The U.S. Securities and Exchange (SEC) sued Musk in San Francisco federal court to force him to testify in the agency's investigation into its 2022 takeover of Twitter.

A document on Thursday showed that the SEC investigation involved whether Musk violated securities laws relating to his purchase of Twitter's shares last year, as well as his statements and regulatory documents relating to the social media company.

The SEC said in the document that Musk failed to attend the San Francisco hearing last month.
