周三，美国财政部长耶伦表示，有很大可能性美国在6月初就会面临财政资金不足状况，重申最早在6月1日时美国财政部就可能无钱可用，很难准确预估出资金会在具体哪一天耗尽，将很快向国会提供更明晰的财政资金时间线状况。
耶伦认为，达成债务上限协议仍是可能的。正在继续努力，以得到来自两党的支持。拜登总统的团队已经提出了额外削减1万亿美元财政赤字的措施。
耶伦表示，如果债务上限协议在财政资金耗尽的“X日”之后仍无法达成，将面临艰难抉择。一旦如此，部分性违约状况将在所难免。现在所要做的仅仅就是提高债务上限。在违约事件发生的情况下，会发生什么，没有参与这一讨论。
她指出，已看到了金融市场承压的状况，包括国债发售。市场压力状况突显了及时达成协议的重要性。因为市场承压状况还只是刚刚开始。希望避免2011年时出现过的破坏性影响再度出现。
