Investors in Leader Environmental Technologies (SGX:LS9) have seen strong returns of 244% over the past five years

The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But on the bright side, you can make far more than 100% on a really good stock. For example, the Leader Environmental Technologies Limited (SGX:LS9) share price has soared 118% in the last half decade. Most would be very happy with that. And in the last month, the share price has gained 10%.

So let's investigate and see if the longer term performance of the company has been in line with the underlying business' progress.

View our latest analysis for Leader Environmental Technologies

Leader Environmental Technologies wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.

In the last 5 years Leader Environmental Technologies saw its revenue shrink by 17% per year. Given that scenario, we wouldn't have expected the share price to rise 17% per year, but that's what it did. It just goes to show tht the market is forward looking, and it's not always easy to predict the future based on past trends. Still, we are a bit cautious in this kind of situation.

What About The Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We'd be remiss not to mention the difference between Leader Environmental Technologies' total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price return. Arguably the TSR is a more complete return calculation because it accounts for the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested), along with the hypothetical value of any discounted capital that have been offered to shareholders. Leader Environmental Technologies' TSR of 244% for the 5 years exceeded its share price return, because it has paid dividends.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Leader Environmental Technologies shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 19% over one year. Having said that, the five-year TSR of 28% a year, is even better. Potential buyers might understandably feel they've missed the opportunity, but it's always possible business is still firing on all cylinders. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. To that end, you should learn about the 3 warning signs we've spotted with Leader Environmental Technologies (including 2 which are significant) .
