Tencent Technology News On March 21, 2019, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Tencent Cloud held a cooperation signing ceremony at the East Campus of Beijing Foreign Studies University. In the future, the two sides will jointly carry out pilot work on artificial intelligence boosting teaching force building actions and actively explore new paths of teaching force reform and new methods of teaching force building in the new era. Sun Youzhong, vice-president of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Pan Hongyan, general manager of Tencent Smart Education, attended and signed a cooperation agreement.
As the first batch of “double first-class” world-class academic institutions in the country, Beijing Foreign Studies University is a foreign language university with a long history, the largest number of teaching languages, and a complete level of operation among institutions of higher learning in China. It is famous all over the world for cultivating outstanding foreign-related talents. Beijing Foreign Studies University has always attached great importance to the integrated development of “Internet +” education, continuously improving teaching standards through informatization. The “Education Information Education Service Project” launched in 2017 promotes standardization of academic affairs management, networking of teaching models, and digitization of teaching resources, and has received widespread praise from universities and enterprise partners, and won the title of “Excellent Model School for Smart Campuses” in 2018.
In the current era of digital education, Beijing Foreign Studies University is actively exploring new ways to integrate artificial intelligence technology with education, and is comprehensively completing the pilot work of the Ministry of Education's artificial intelligence to boost the teaching force. In this cooperation with Tencent Cloud, the two sides have carried out in-depth cooperation on actions such as building intelligent classrooms, building intelligent teacher development laboratories, and building big data for teachers.
Tencent's smart campus products are Tencent's mobile campus smart ecosystem solutions built by Tencent based on cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data and other capabilities. As a powerful assistant in the digital transformation and upgrading of education, at present, more than 14,000 schools of all types have connected to Tencent's smart campus services, reaching more than 19 million teachers, students and parents, and fully cooperating with more than 300 education authorities.
With this cooperation, Tencent Smart Campus provides more than 20 functions, including electronic student cards, premium cloud courses, course registration, and curriculum inquiries, for on-campus management, office, and teaching scenarios of Beijing Foreign Studies University. It also conducts application tests for AI teaching scenarios such as the “Classroom Behavior Analysis System”, “Automatic English Approval System”, and “Voice Evaluation Test System” according to actual needs, actively participated in the formulation of smart classroom standards related to Beijing Foreign Studies University, and provided relevant resources and data support.
Tencent's New Engineering Laboratory, which provides colleges and universities with complete new engineering courses and a one-stop teaching and training platform, will also help Beijing Foreign Studies University enhance students' practical abilities and help cultivate innovative talents more suited to industrial development. The corporate WeChat team will also assist Beijing Foreign Studies University in carrying out on-campus communication related tasks such as organizational structure and management authority building, and explore examples of in-depth application of corporate WeChat in colleges and universities.
In addition, the paper and pen smart teaching application solution based on digital optical dot array technology, jointly created by Tencent Cloud and Toride, will also be used by some lecturers at Beijing Foreign Studies University in scenarios such as course preparation, office, and classroom interaction. The two sides will make full use of their respective resource advantages, jointly carry out in-depth cooperation in management, teaching and other fields, and promote the smooth completion of the “Beijing Foreign Studies University Artificial Intelligence Boosting Teaching Team Building Action” pilot project.
