On the news side, Ganfeng Lithium, a subsidiary of Ganfeng Lithium, announced a new breakthrough in solid-state batteries. Ganfeng Lithium and Selis Group will carry out in-depth cooperation around solid-state battery loading applications. The pure electric SUV Selis SERES 5, equipped with Ganfeng lithium power ternary solid-liquid mixed lithium-ion battery, is scheduled to be listed in 2023.

According to another introduction, at present, Chongqing Ganfeng 20GWh new lithium battery science and technology industrial park project is under construction, planning to build the largest solid-state battery production base in China, helping more car companies to achieve power system iteration.

Affected by this, Ganfeng Lithium's AH rose sharply.A shares rose nearly 5% to 80.88 yuan, while H shares rose 4.31% to HK $71.35.

A number of models with semi-solid batteries have been released.

In fact, semi-solid battery loading is not new news. In the previous month, CyrusIts SERES 5 onceIt was unveiled at the Brussels Auto Show in Belgium and signed contracts with more than 20 partners, with orders for more than 20,000 new cars.

Chairman Zhang Zhengping said at the auto show that three SERES 5 models will enter the European market, of which the pure electric version will be equipped with 90kWh semi-solid battery and 80kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, respectively, with a maximum range (WLTP) 530km.Delivery of the SERES 5 is scheduled to begin in March this year.

In addition to Selis, since last year, a number of leading semi-solid battery companies have gradually released vehicle-grade batteries, such as the ET7 in 2022, Dongfeng E70, Lantu and other models with semi-solid batteries.


The turning point in the commercialization of semi-solid batteries was in 2024-2025.

At present, liquid lithium batteries are widely used in new energy vehicles, but due toSolid-state battery uses solid-state electrolyte to replace the original liquid electrolyte and diaphragm, and the safety, energy density and life of the battery have been significantly improved, which has become the focus of the industry.

Although the advantages are obvious and all enterprises around the world are actively arranging solid-state batteries, it still takes some time for the large-scale production of all-solid-state batteries, and the main constraint lies in the technical difficulties and cost.

According to the content of liquid electrolyte, solid-state battery can be divided into semi-solid, quasi-solid and all-solid. Semi-solid battery is the product of transition from liquid battery to all-solid battery.

Ganfeng Lithium's ternary solid-liquid hybrid battery belongs to the first generation of solid-state battery developed by the company, which is actually a semi-solid battery, that is, some materials still continue the "formula" of liquid lithium battery.

According to Ganfeng Lithium, the energy density of the battery can reach 260Wh/kg.

With the iterative development and commercialization of battery technology, Everbright Securities expectsThe turning point in the commercialization of semi-solid batteries will be in 2024-2025.It will take 5-10 years for all-solid-state battery to realize commercial application.

During the iterative process of the solid-state battery, the liquid electrolyte content will be reduced from 20wt% to 0wt%, the lithium content of the battery negative electrode will gradually increase until it is replaced by metal lithium, and the battery density is expected to gradually increase to 500Wh/kg.

Investment prospect

In terms of investment, Everbright Securities believes that the semi-solid route is smaller for the existing liquid lithium-ion battery system and is regarded as an all-solid transition route. Solid-state battery enterprises in the primary market, such as Weilan and Qingtao, are different from power enterprises such as Funeng Technology, Guoxuan Hi-Tech and Honeycomb Energy. It is expected to see vehicle-end applications one after another in 2023.

Everbright Securities believes that materials such as solid-state electrolyte coatings and in-situ solid-state lithium salts have been added to semi-solid batteries, and it is recommended to pay attention to incremental material supply chains and suppliers such as lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO), lithium titanium aluminum phosphate (LATP), sulphide solid electrolytes, and new lithium salts.

Suggested attention: Ningde era, Funeng Technology, Dangsheng Technology, Huasheng Lithium Power, Shanghai Ziba, Oriental Zirconium Industry, Sanxiang New Materials, Ruitai New Materials and so on.
