1. What is edge computing

Even after MEC processing in the edge data center, the latency can be controlled within 10ms. The improvement of network performance brought about by MEC depends not only on the existing infrastructure conditions of the network, but also on the openness and scalability of the platform.

2. The entrance value of small base station will be fully reflected in 5G edge calculation.

To achieve the same full coverage as 4G, the number of macro sites required by 5G is conservatively estimated to be 1.5 to 2 times that of LTE macro sites. Replacing 4G macro station with macro base station completely not only costs a lot of money, but also can not adapt to the differentiation of 5G service demand. at the same time, about 80% of the traffic sent by operators occurs indoors or in relatively concentrated areas.

The concept of small base station came into being: in order to meet the needs of scene segmentation such as supplementary coverage, traffic-intensive areas and indoor customization.

The MEC deployed on the wireless access network, especially on the small base station, covers an area within the coverage of a single site, and is very suitable for service processing and forwarding in an omni-directional sector. For small base stations with macro architecture, such as Huawei's Lampsite scheme, a central unit can have jurisdiction over more than a dozen access points, and the coverage can be greatly expanded by deploying MEC on the CU side.
