Recently, Consumer report, a well-known American magazine, released the 2022 Automobile Brand Reliability report.

Toyota, Lexus and BMW were the three most reliable car brands in 2022, while Volkswagen, Jeep and Mercedes-Benz ranked at the bottom of the list, according to the reportAmong them, BMW counterattacked to third place from 17th last year, while Mercedes-Benz ranked bottom for the first time.

Specifically, the report covers 24 car brands, surveyed more than 300,000 models 2000 to 2022 and some 2023 vehicles, and asked owners to provide fault information in 17 areas, including engines, gearboxes and on-board electronic devices.

The overall score of the car brand is based on the predicted reliability, road test performance, vehicle owner satisfaction survey results, whether the model is equipped with key active safety systems and the third-party collision test results. The full reliability score is 100.

Among themToyota ranks first in reliability, with a comprehensive score of 72.Lexus tied with Toyota with a score of 72.

It was followed by BMW, which ranked third with a comprehensive score of 65, while Mazda ranked fourth with a comprehensive score of 65. The fifth to tenth places are Honda, Audi, Subaru, Acura, Kia, Lincoln and other brands.

American cars rank relatively low, with Ram 16th, Cadillac 17, Ford 18, Tesla, Inc. 19, Chevrolet 20 and GMC21 all at the bottom of the list.

But the most unexpected thing isMercedes-Benz took the bottom spot for the first time, ranking 24th, with an overall score of just 26, falling five places to replace Lincoln at the bottom.

The huge gap between BMW and Mercedes-Benz rankings, said Jake Fisher, senior automotive testing director at Consumer report, may be due to the way the two brands apply advanced new technologies.

BMW has generally reduced the number of new technologies, while Mercedes-Benz has adopted more new technologies. However, more new technologies mean more errors and failures, such as screen crashes or blanks, resulting in reduced brand reliability.

In addition, overall, Japanese and South Korean brands accounted for seven of the top 10, but slightly lower than in 2021. This also shows that Japanese cars generally have a greater competitive advantage in terms of reliability.
