Energy production in September 2022

In September, large-scale industrial raw coal, crude oil and natural gas production increased compared with the same period last year, while electricity production decreased. Compared with August, the growth rate of raw coal and crude oil has accelerated, natural gas has slowed down, and electricity has dropped significantly.

I. production of raw coal, crude oil and natural gas and related conditions

The production of raw coal is growing rapidly. In September, 390 million tons of raw coal were produced, an increase of 12.3 percent over the same period last year, with an average daily output of 12.89 million tons. From January to September, 3.32 billion tons of raw coal were produced, an increase of 11.2 percent over the same period last year.

Crude oil production has changed from decline to rise. In September, crude oil production was 16.81 million tons, an increase of 1.4 percent over the same period last year, compared with a drop of 0.2 percent last month, with an average daily output of 560000 tons. From January to September, 153.75 million tons of crude oil were produced, an increase of 3.0 per cent over the same period last year.

The processing volume of crude oil has changed from decline to increase. In September, 56.81 million tons of crude oil was processed, an increase of 1.9 percent over the same period last year, compared with a decrease of 6.5 percent last month, with an average daily processing of 1.894 million tons. From January to September, 497.26 million tons of crude oil was processed, down 5.1 per cent from the same period last year.

The growth rate of natural gas production has slowed. In September, natural gas production was 16.4 billion cubic meters, an increase of 4.6 percent over the same period last year, with a growth rate of 1.7 percent over the previous month, with an average daily output of 550 million cubic meters. From January to September, natural gas production was 160.1 billion cubic meters, an increase of 5.4 per cent over the same period last year.

II. Electric power production

Electricity production has dropped noticeably. In September, 683 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were generated, down 0.4 percent from the same period last year, compared with an increase of 9.9 percent last month, with an average of 22.77 billion kilowatt hours per day. From January to September, 6.3 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity were generated, an increase of 2.2 per cent over the same period last year.

From a variety point of view, in September, the growth rate of thermal power and wind power slowed, the decline of hydropower and nuclear power expanded, and the growth rate of solar power generation accelerated. Of this total, thermal power increased by 6.1% year-on-year, down 8.7% from the previous month; wind power increased by 25.8%, down 2.4% from the previous month; hydropower decreased by 30.0%, an increase of 19.0% over the previous month; nuclear power fell by 2.7%, an increase of 2.1% over the previous month; and solar power increased by 18.9%, 8.0% faster than the previous month.
