China Internet Information Office accuses Tencent's Kuaibao of conveying vulgar messages.

Chinese regulators have shut down hundreds of websites and thousands of mobile apps in a continuing crackdown on Internet content and accused the news apps of Tencent Holdings Ltd., TCEHY (∶ Tencent) of spreading vulgar information.

The China Internet Information Office said on Wednesday that it had cleared nearly 71 million harmful messages on the Internet and shut down 733 websites and 9382 mobile applications in the past three weeks.

Kuaibao, a news app owned by Tencent, was accused of spreading vulgar information and destroying the Internet ecology on Wednesday. The Internet Information Office did not provide specific examples.

Kuaibao said he would operate in accordance with the law and meet all requirements.
