Last night, U. S. stocks rose and fell, closing down across the board. By the close, the s & p and Nasdaq were down 1.5%, and the Dow was down 1.7%. The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note rose 4 basis points to close at 3.83%, leaving it deep upside down compared with the yield difference of-45 basis points over the two-year Treasury note. The US core PCE price index recorded an annualised rate of 4.9 per cent in August, higher than the expected 4.7 per cent and a previous value of 4.6 per cent. The monthly rate of personal expenditure in August was 0.4%, also higher than the expected 0.20%, with a previous value of 0.10%. Institutional analysis said that PCE shows the hot phenomenon of inflation again.
