After leading Asia-Pacific stocks lower yesterday, the Hong Kong stock index rose early on Wednesday, recovering some of yesterday's losses. The Hang Seng index rose 0.4% and the H-share index rose 0.6%. Most mainland heavyweights climbed, with Tencent (0700.HK) and China Construction Bank Corporation (0939.HK) both up about 1 per cent, while property developers and mainland consumer stocks stabilised. Sunny Optical Technology (2382.HK) rebounded 3.3 per cent, recovering nearly half of yesterday's losses. XIAOMI Group (1810.HK) surged 5 per cent to a record high after Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing said it was negotiating with mainland exchanges to include companies with different voting structures into the new supplementary mechanism for qualified securities of Hong Kong Stock Connect.
