Investment management company CIGI.US released "looking to the Future: trends and opportunities for the Hotel Industry in Hong Kong". Shaman Chellaram, Senior Director of valuation and Consulting Services in Asia, said that although the operating environment of hotels in Hong Kong is still challenging, the demand for holidays in Hong Kong, quarantine hotels and long-term accommodation plans have all contributed to the growth of performance.

According to Chellaram, major infrastructure, business and leisure-related initiatives have been launched to enhance Hong Kong's status as a cosmopolitan city and increase its long-term development potential. New and existing operators can co-operate with existing owners or investors to expand the market, while considering technology, asset appreciation, and environmental, social and governance measures

Despite the slow pace of recovery hit by the epidemic, the outlook for the hotel industry remains optimistic, with more than 10 new hotels opening between 2020 and 2021, and more are expected to be completed in 2022 and beyond, the report said. Up to the third quarter of 2021, the turnover remained mediocre at $1.7 billion; however, it may reach $3 billion by the end of the year. By contrast, the level of investment in 2020 is 1.3 billion yuan. Investor appetite for hotels in Hong Kong remains strong, with well-funded private equity property funds and private investors waiting for suitable opportunities, while the main challenges come from placing, forecasting and expected price differentials.
