According to Macau's Statistics and Census Bureau, the number of hotel and apartment residents rose 1 per cent to 444000 in October, while mainland residents (340000) decreased by 5.6 per cent and local residents (78000) increased by 35.6 per cent. The average length of stay of residents increased by 0.2 nights to 1.9 nights per year.
Due to the tightening of customs clearance requirements at the Zhuhai-Macao Port in mid-early October, the number of overnight passengers decreased by 60% every month, and the average occupancy rate of guest rooms also dropped by 4.9 percentage points to 44.6%, rising by 4.8 percentage points year-on-year.
From January to October this year, the average occupancy rate of hotels and apartments in Macao was 49.9%, an annual increase of 25.3%. The number of residents increased by 94.3% to 5.48 million, and the average stay was extended by 0.1 to 1.8 nights.
