[TechWeb] Beijing Oriental, a domestic screen maker that has entered the iPhone supply chain, will supply Apple Inc with 50 million OLED screens next year, according to a research firm.
Among iPhone's screen suppliers, Samsung also expects to supply 150 million OLED screens to Apple Inc next year, compared with 70 million for LG displays. The 50 million yuan of BOE is already equivalent to 70% of the amount shown by LG, and the gap between supply will be significantly narrowed.
For this year, the research institute expects BOE to supply Apple Inc with 18 million OLED screens, 15 million for iPhone 12 and the remaining 3 million for iPhone 13.
The research institute predicts that after a sharp increase in supply, BOE may overtake LG display to become the second largest supplier of Apple Inc iPhone OLED screens in 2023, after Samsung display.
Research institutions say that if BOE's supply increases significantly, the share shown by LG is likely to decline and the competition will be fiercer. At the same time, unlike Samsung and BOE, the sixth generation flexible OLED panel production line shown by LG has only Apple Inc, and if it is overtaken by BOE in Apple Inc's supply chain, LG shows that this business will face greater risks after 2022.
